X-Ray Sorters

X-RAY TRANSMISSION (XRT)

The X-ray Transmission is a through beam technology taking advantage of the penetrating form of the X-ray high-energy electromagnetic radiations.

The X-Ray’s primary source emits radiation that can be totally, partially or very little absorbed by the single elements they bomb. The level of absorption depends on the density and thickness of each chemical element.

By measuring the residual radiation that passes through a single piece with a dual bank of XRT sensors of different energies, it is possible to identify the density of a piece regardless of its shape.

X-RAY FLUORESCENCE WITH TRANSMISSION (XRF-T)

The proprietary SGM XRF-T response to the limitation of the sole imaging technologies by adding to the image of single pieces, information on the composition of their inner content.

The SGM XRF-T identifies and sorts aluminum with heavy metals in or attached to them. THE SGM XRF-T combines in one sorter, two technologies using one X-Ray source and both XRF and XRT sensors.

The SGM XRF-T is specifically suited for operators with small and medium quantities of material to process; as with one SGM XRF-T, they can save on the more expensive investment of two separate sorters XRT + XRF.

Metals can be sorted with a recovery of over 90% and purity over 98%.

X-RAY FLUORESCENCE WITH BACK SCATTERING (XRF-BS)

The SGM XRF-BS sorter (X-ray fluorescence and back scattering), which is subject to patent application, works by combining the fluorescence signal with the backscattering signal allowing the separation of different types of metals based on their chemical composition, including light metals and different aluminum alloys among them.

The combination of the two signals allows the XRF-BS to perform on material with critical surfaces (paint, dirt..), as in the case of scrap.

XRF-BS technology’s analysis mode is designed to continuously irradiate a piece and therefore it obtains more precise information and a more accurate analysis of the entire piece, independent of its shape and the presence of moisture on the material.
