Billets, Beam Blanks, and Bars
SGM designs and manufactures Electromagnets (EM) and Electro Permanent Magnets (EPR) for the handling of billets, beam blanks, and bars, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-performance lifting solutions.
For hot applications and intensive duty cycles, particularly at the caster exit, SGM offers its proprietary Convection Electro Lifting Magnet, specifically designed to withstand severe mechanical shocks, high-duty cycles, and extreme temperatures.
Electromagnets
SGM electromagnets are engineered to meet the rigorous mechanical and electrical demands of billet and beam blank handling. They feature:
- Anodized Aluminum Winding – This chemically treated aluminum strip provides exceptional insulation and heat resistance, withstanding temperatures up to 600-650°C.
- High Duty Cycle Performance – Designed for continuous operation, ensuring longer service life and minimal downtime.
- Advanced Heat Dissipation – Specialized resins and an optimized design allow better thermal management, preventing overheating and improving operational efficiency.
- Continuous Temperature Monitoring – Real-time internal temperature tracking ensures safe operation and protects magnet integrity.
Convection Electromagnet: Designed for Longevity
Extreme heat and intensive workloads can compromise the lifespan and performance of lifting magnets. SGM has developed its Convection Electro Lifting Magnets, specifically designed to dissipate heat efficiently, increasing both duty cycle and durability. These magnets are ideal for steel mills and heavy-duty industrial environments.
Electro Permanent Magnets (EPR) for Maximum Safety
For applications where power reliability is critical, SGM’s Electro Permanent Magnets (EPR) provide constant lifting force without dependence on external power sources, eliminating the risk of accidental load drops due to power failures.
- Independent from External Power Sources – Unlike traditional electromagnets, EPR magnets maintain lifting force autonomously, ensuring that loads will not drop in case of power failure or cable damage.
- Consistent Lifting Force Over Time – Unlike electromagnets, which may experience lifting force reduction, EPR magnets provide constant holding power, eliminating accidental drops due to magnetic degradation.
- Recommended for High-Safety Environments – Ideal for applications where sudden power failures could pose significant risks, ensuring uninterrupted lifting security.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Designed in compliance with European Standard EN 13155, SGM lifting solutions provide maximum reliability, safety, and efficiency for handling billets, beam blanks, and bars.
